My Javanese Gamelan series is directed towards a serene concept with bright pastel colors that are vibrant, yet subtle. The physical instruments are comprised of different shades of red, brown and gold. However beautiful, these colors do not complement the serene concept I was aiming towards. I decided to go with colors that could not be seen, but heard, the colors of the sound. Played individually, each instrument is loud and vibrant, but played together it becomes a calm and peaceful sound. This is why I chose the bright pastel colors; each color individually makes a statement on its own, but mixed together it becomes something simple and collective.
